Student Orientation or
commonly we said as MOS (Masa Orientasi Siswa) is a period of time at the
beginning of the academic year at a university,
senior hight school, and junior
high school. MOS is a program to introduce new students to the school's
enviroment such as school structure, school culture, and teacher. The point is
to make us as a student to enjoy our new school. MOS has been introduced by the
Department of Education as a program to make a new student adapt with his
school. But practically, MOS in indonesia is not normal anymore and it should
be changed.
There are several
reasons why the MOS should be changed. First, because MOS promotes violence not
character building. Probably both teachers and seniors seriuously stop this
kind of psychological torture. It is better that the program changes it into a
much more educated to the juniors and creates their creativity. Through those
things, students will be tought how to become a creative one that are
fundamental for our young generations not for a useless things.
Second, MOS only create a seniority in the school.
Some of the schools still implement it because it is like inheritance though,
how the senior students remember the way their previous senior students
treating them and perhaps they've already planned a revenge to the new students.
Thus, it seems to be continously happened for a negative aspect of the old system
of student orientation.
Last, MOS in Indonesia
is merely for making fun out of the new students, nothing more. How could be a
ridicoulous thing happened during MOS for intance, to make a nametag, which
usually the ingredients is hard to find. It is only spend more money, on
searching it, bringing a strange-name-vegetable, buying a flower or chocolate
for fucking senior, and asking for a signature. All these things should be
stopped as soon as possible because it was horrible examination for a new
students and the impact is a revenge.
To sump up, the Student
Orintation Program is not good anymore. Only some schools conducted MOS as
effective as they thought. If they want to create a better human resources,
change the program. But if they don't, our country's development will be
stagnan and the essence of MOS itself will lose and fade
