Independence day celebration: Has Indonesia gotten the Independence? (Marwanupi)

Every year, Indonesia always commemorate the independence day. Independence day is an important day for Indonesian citizen because this is a great momentum in which Indonesia has got its liberty from the practice of colonialism which is done by the colonialist nations. Exactly, August 17 1945, our founding gathera, Sukarno and Moh. Hatta, proclaimed Indonesian Independence that Indonesia had been freed itself and must achieve freedom perfectly from the other countries (colonialist).

Independence is always gotten by struggle. Our heroes fought against colonialist by sacrificing all of their lives. However, nowadays, many people do not enjoy their freedom and always protest to the government about discrimination. 

Sukarno has given message to Indonesia's young generation. He said: “ Our struggle is easier than your struggle. Our enemies are very easy to identify that they are foreigners who generally have white skin, tall body, and coloured hair. Meanwhile your era will be more difficult because your enemies are from your communities or Indonesians such as your government”. This statement explains that Independence is not static but more challenging.

Sukarno aimed to create the real fair society. He calls: “Trisakti”. This term (trisakti, red) describes that Indonesia must achieve the political independence, the strong economy without intervention from the other sides and have local wisdom. Futher, Moh. Hatta said: “It is not democracy if we have gotten democracy in economy, but we do not get democracy in politics. On the contrary, It is not democracy if we have gotten democracy of politics but we have not gotten democracy of economy”.

The Statements above define that independence is a condition where Indonesian people should be free from all of the injustices and colonialism, either physically or ideology. In the life of nation state, many anomalies which are not accordance with Indonesian’s purpose. We adopt liberal political system so Indonesia is extremely freed even lots of people violate morality rules. Our government applied the capitalism economy making the big gap between poor and rich people. Utilizing the foreign culture without selecting so unconsciously that we have forgotten our local wisdoms.

In conclusion, I still want to give a question: Have we gotten the really independence?
