Child Labour in indonesia (Muhlis)

Did you ever see child labour in indonesia? Is it child exploitation or does she or he encounter poor schooling opportunities because of economic aspects? But before that the writer wants to explain what child labour is. Child labour indicated that the employment of children in any work that losses children of their childhood by sacrificing their ablity such as mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful without parental controls.

Unfortunately, In indonesia many children enter the workforce at an early age, and many are vulnerable to exploitation in the worst forms of child labour. It is estimated that there are 3.2 million children between the ages of 10 – 17 years old in Indonesia engaged in employment with some involved in the worst forms of child labour. These children worked in agriculture, washing motorcyle, factories, mining and in services such as shopkeeper.

Concerns have often been raised over this case even our manpower minister Hanif Dhakiri declares june as month against child labour and he promises to eradicate child labor by 2022. The big question is what steps that our goverment look into to eleminate child labour in indonesia?  In fact, despite having many ways to solve this case in the previous minister, the total number of child labourers remains high. The main problem is our population has continued sharply every year and the right of education has yet to be unequal.

There are still many children in Indonesia that can not enjoy their rights to receive education and children from poor families usually has to work to fulfill their basic needs for their families. Thus, by targetting to aboilish child labour by 2022 manpower minister should be consistent or set to foccus in eleminating child workers. Moreover, commitment and cooperation between institutions to keep children from being turned into workers aren’t maximal. Therefore, not only our goverment should monitor it, but also parents play a major role to avoid their children in working at an early age.

In conclusion, developing countries such as Indonesia should improve its system more on children’s education to drop the number of child labor in Indonesia significantly. Our minister needs a new breakthrough and good actions in related to our education system and in regard of poor families.
