STRUCTURAL FUNCTIONALISM (Saddam Husain)

In sociology, there is a point of view that sees the society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability. The theory is structural functionalism that introduced by some expert in sociology, such as Auguste Comte. Emile Durkheim, and Herbert Spencer.
Clearly, functionalism drives different role of every class. The upper class becomes a thinker, the lower class becomes worker and the middle class will be the connector between them. Three of them seem like body parts that every part has its own function to balance the condition of social society. Herbert Spencer popularizes this analogy.
In spite of those, the phenomenon in a real life is very different. The equilibrium of society is only in utopia. For example, violence, rebellion, and even revolution still exist in some countries, like Syria, Libya and others. Human tragedies that the proletariat as the representative of the lower class has done are the evidences that the social condition is not balance. They are not satisfied with the system and condition of life. What the proletariat has done are the reaction of corruption, discrimination and despotism that the governance as representative of upper class did.
I personally think that, social classification is an absolute history. There is no one can deny that, it undoubtedly exists in life. But the problem is the classification makes a big social gap in the relation of human. The upper class becomes stronger and richer time to time. On the other hand, the lower class becomes weaker and poorer.
In conclusion, every part of body has different function to balance the condition of human, just like in social context; every structure has different function to promote the stability and solidarity. They must cooperate with each other so that the ideal society comes true.
