Unemployment scholars (Agus putra gowa)

Graduation day is the most waited day for the college students. After 5 - year studying, grappled with campus, lecturers, and assignments, they finally reach the top of their studying. However, they do not realize that graduation is the door of facing more challenging life. The life to survive without any assist or subsidy from their parents. It is the time to apply what they have got during their study which is abviously to get a job. In fact, to get a job for scholars is not as easy as they think. Some of them even become jobless due to the lack of skill and the missmatching between the output and the workforce needs.
Getting a job is obviously the most urgent case after garduation. There is no time for the scholars to stay at home. They will be very busy in finding any job, applying for a job in multinational companies and taking apart in job fairs. However, Scholars who have graduated usually do not have skill in order to support their career and tend to rely on their certificate. We probably remember this lirycs, “you are young scholar, worried about seeking a job, your certificate is no longer useful”. This song was booming and popularized by Indonesian musician, Iwan Fals in 1990’s. This song was the reflection of how difficult scholars in finding proper job.   The number of unemployment scholars is getting increasing every year. According to Central Bureau Of Statistics (BPS 2014), unemployment scholars reached 398.298. it is equivalent to 4,31 % of total number of unemployment which reaches 7.147.069 people. Nowadays, there are more than 600,000 graduates become unemployment. Most of This intellectual jobless are undergraduate (420,000 people) while the rest are diploma. If this phenomeon does not meet any solution, the number of unemployment scholars will be much more increasing.
In many Indonesian Universities, education systems apllied are more focused on building hard skill (IQ / Intellegence Qoutient ) rather than soft skill (EQ/ Emotonal Intellegence Quotient ) i.e, socializing with others, such as joining organization, integrity, ethics, and ability to work in a team. As a matter of fact, most graduates are smart but do not have soft skill which enable students to build up their creativity in which it could assist them to open their own business.
Another problem faced by scholars is the missmatching between the output and the vacancy needs. This phenomenon can be figured out by the majors that students take in universities. Most students really like taking popular majors such as nursing ,midwifery, teachers and law. They do not take into account the number of vacancy they will have after studying. As a result, a number of nurse, teacher, midwife, and law graduates become unemployment because job vacancy is limited. In addition, Lots of scholars graduate without any supplementary skill such as communication skill (i,e. English) which is really required In some multinational companies. Therefore, students have to see the output of the major they will take and need to have communication skill like english
To conclude, the number of unemployment scholars could become a big deal for the government. No jobs means no income, while the daily needs are getting increasing. The government has to concern about this problem by creating a policy in order to create job vacancies for the unemployment scholars. Furthermore, all scholars should have both hard and soft skill so that they can compete or create their own business instead of applying for a job.
